Have you recently purchased a Garmin activity tracker such as a Vivofit or Vivosmart? Then you need to get set up on the Garmin Connect fitness app. It’s available to install for free on your smartphone and as desktop software for Windows and Mac OS. Without the free Vivofit app, you won’t be able to monitor your progress or stay on track to reach your fitness goals in detail.
Sync Your Vivofit Activity Tracker with the Free Garmin Connect App
The Garmin Vivofit app automatically syncs with your activity tracker during the day and saves all of your stats for review later on. It’s very easy to setup an account. Simply install the app on your smartphone and follow the onscreen instructions. Alternatively, you can follow the ‘Get Started’ instructions on your desktop computer. You’ll need to make sure your smartphone has Bluetooth turned on so your Vivofit or activity tracker can sync with the app.
If you’re having trouble syncing your Vivofit with the app follow the detailed steps the FAQ’s guide: How do I sync my Vivofit with the Garmin Connect app?
Why Should I Use the Garmin Vivofit App?
Using the Garmin Connect app will help you get the most from your Vivofit activity tracker. The Vivofit and Vivosmart have small displays so it can be hard to monitor all of your progress. This is where Garmin Connect comes shows its strengths. The app will organize all of your data into graphs with simple summaries of your workouts. You can swipe through the data easily for a snapshot of your activity or press on it for more detail.
To navigate around the app you need to familiarize yourself with the main menu which consists of Snapshots, Leaderboard, Calendar, News Feed and More. The desktop version of Garmin Connect has even more activity data in comparison with the Vivofit smartphone app.
How to use the Garmin Connect Vivofit App
The Garmin Vivofit app has been cleverly designed so users can customize what they see at a glance. The first screen you will see after setting up an account is My Day. There are 2 large graphs with summaries of daily steps so far and sleep time. The steps count gives you an indication of how far off your daily goal you are. Sleep time is monitored between when you take the activity tracker off your wrist and put it back on again in the morning, alternatively you can wear it during the night for a more accurate reading.
Below the 2 graphs is a summary of your day so far. You can click on each of these for more detail. Active Calories shows calories burnt during a timed activity such as running or cycling. Calories can also be synced with MyFitnessPal for extra detail and if you’re trying to lose weight. Intensity Minutes shows you how much vigorous activity you’ve had. As a guide follow the Intensity Minutes Help here which is taken from Garmin Connect. On the right is the Timeline which shows total activities, calories consumed and floors climbed.
Useful Features of the Garmin Connect Vivofit App
My Day is also where you can choose which snapshots you see on the Vivofit app. Top right of the screen is an option to select which snapshots are important to you. Simply uncheck the ones that you don’t want to see. This will also help declutter the app from any information which you don’t use.
Leaderboards are a good way of keeping up with your connections. You can see other users activities such as steps, running, cycling and swimming. You can also use this as extra motivation to try and get to the top of the leaderboards.
The Calendar gives you the detail of what you have been doing recently. Clicking on it shows you a detailed graph of peak times of performance. The Newsfeed displays all of your connections workouts or steps, you can like or leave a comment.
The ‘More’ section displays details on Activities, Health and Performance Stats, Workouts, Courses, Segments, Gear and Insights to your general health and wellbeing. You can find connections using your phone book or create a group of friends so you can challenge and motivate each other. You can add gear such as a new pair of running shoes or a bike. Adding gear, for example, helps you keep a tally of how far you’ve run in a particular pair of trainers (500 miles is the recommended maximum), you’ll know when it’s time to buy some more!
