Garmin Vivomove Luxury Activity Tracker Review
Welcome to a review of the Garmin Vivomove, a classic Swiss watch with simple activity tracking built-in. Garmin is well known for its wearables and GPS smartwatches. However, many of their products clearly look like sports watches. For example, the Vivoactive HR or Vivosmart HR+ are made from plastic and designed for running or multi-sports tracking. These watches don’t necessarily go with your tailored suit or evening dress.
Garmin Vivomove Key Features:
- 24/7 wearable: 5ATM water-resistant (e.g. swim, shower and rainproof)
- One year battery life
- Tracks your daily activity: Track steps, calories, distance, sleep
- Auto goal and Move bar: Adjusts automatically to your daily activity level
- Auto sync: Automatically syncs with your mobile device throughout the day
- Easy to use: works straight out of the box
- Bluetooth Connectivity
- Integrates with the Garmin Connect app
- Classic watch form factor
- Easy to use: can be used straight out the box
- Interchangeable bands: standard watch strap width for personal customization
Vivmomove – Classic Swiss Watch with Activity Tracking
If you’re looking for a daily activity tracking watch that has style, Garmin Vivomove is perfect. The only give away that it actually is an activity tracker are the 2 small dial like displays on the watch face. One shows you how close you are to reaching your daily step goal and the other fills with red every 15 minutes of inactivity.
Garmin Vivomove – A Fitness Watch with Elegance
There are 6 versions of the Garmin Vivomove available depending on how much cash you want to part with or the style you prefer. All the watches in the range look stylish and fashionable and are a far cry from a chunk of black, featureless plastic. All the straps/bands are easily interchangeable without the use of a tool. The bands are also a standard strap width so you’re not restricted to buying a replacement from Garmin.
Garmin Vivomove Analog Watch Meets Wearable Tech
Vivomove has a standard CR2025 coin cell battery which Garmin say will last up to a year and can be easily replaced. You don’t have to charge it every day which is great. Vivomove is waterproof to 5ATM, for example, you can wear it swimming or in the shower. Personally, I take my watch off in the shower but at least you have the reassurance if you get caught in the rain. If you have the leather strap version you may choose to take it off for swimming to help preserve the material.
Garmin Vivomove feels like a premium watch. It’s heavy and solid enough but not uncomfortable on your wrist. Simply put it feels well balanced and not like a cheap tracker. In comparison to other Garmin wearables, it is heavier – Sport: 51g (1.8 oz); Classic: 48g (1.7 oz); Premium: 67g (2.4 oz). The Garmin Vivoactive HR weighs in at 48.2g, about the same weight as the Classic version.
Available in black or white with a plastic/silicone sports band, suited more to active users as the band will be more durable to water. The Vivomove Sport version is also the cheapest of the range, at the time of writing priced at: $149.99.
A mid-range option, priced at $199.99. Vivomove Classic is available in either black or white but with leather bands. The leather is fairly hardwearing but won’t be as durable in water or harsher environments.
The most expensive watches in the Vivomove range, priced at $249.99. Vivomove Premium is available as Gold-tone Steel or Stainless Steel with Leather Bands.
Activity Tracking with Garmin Vivomove
Admittedly the activity tracking features available on the Vivomove are the simplest. At a glance you can see the percentage of your daily goal achieved, for more detail, you can easily check how many actual steps you’ve taken, or how far you’ve traveled by using the Garmin Connect mobile app. With the addition of sleep tracking and calorie information. Even if you don’t make full use of the activity tracking features at least you’ll have a great looking Garmin watch on your wrist.
A Classic Garmin Watch with Modern Fitness App
In comparison to the Vivomove, other brands such as the Withings Activité Steel and Fossil don’t have a powerful fitness app companion. Without Garmin Connect you won’t get the activity tracking detail captured by the Vivomove watch. Simply download the app from your app store of choice and follow the online instructions to get started and setup an account. Vivomove will automatically sync with your phone throughout the day when you push the crown button to the side. On the Garmin Connect app, you’ll be able to view details on steps taken, sleep and leaderboard challenges. You can also view details on weight if you use the Garmin Index Scales available separately.
Why Should I Buy the Garmin Vivomove?
You’re not looking for an all singing and dancing GPS smartwatch, you just need a simple but stylish activity tracker. You don’t need wrist heart rate or every alert from your mobile phone popping up on your watch. Vivomove is a superb option for the fashion conscious who also want to keep an eye on their step count during the day. If you are into sports you could always opt for the Vivoactive HR or Vivosmart HR+ with GPS for running.
Garmin Vivomove Review Summary
Garmin has now completed its range of trackers with the Vivomove. It’s function vs form with form charging ahead. There’s a stylish range available and at a good price point which will help Garmin compete with Fossil and Withings. A year long replaceable battery is major positive so there’s no mucking around with charging cables. Vivomove looks like a premium analog Swiss timepiece on your wrist while secretly monitoring your steps during the day.
